The word is getting out...

Nestled in the countryside, we still don't escape great publicity! Here are examples of the press attention we've received.

From Budget Travel Magazine: "Girlfriend Getaways: America's Best Spa Values: Eastern U.S." (Summer 2006) also featured on MSNBC and CNN.

"Sanivan is like a B&B for the soul. In a Catskills town two hours northwest of Manhattan, the spa is owned by Ivan Rivas and Saniye Gungor--a masseur and a shiatsu therapist/shaman, respectively. The husband-and-wife duo offers a smorgasbord of indulgences: personally tailored herbal facials (60 minutes, $80), aromatherapy shiatsu massages (90 minutes, $90), and even 100-percent oxygen treatments for improving blood flow and strengthening the immune system (120 minutes, $225).

With only three bedrooms, the spa promises individualized attention, something Lynne Nordone from Long Island found most rewarding. "You revitalize from the inside out and always learn something you can take home," says Nordone, who eagerly devoured Gungor's "delicious raw food" (cooked grains, chicken, and fish are also available). Sanivan practices what it preaches: All linens and food are organic, trash is recycled, and even the heated pool is ozonated (translation: minimal chlorine). Guests spend downtime walking the outdoor meditation labyrinth and curling up with one of five Angora cats, the spa's 'spiritual guides.'"

From Healing Lifestyles and Spas Magazine: "Treatments that Treat You" (March/April 2005)

"Sanivan Holistic Retreat & Spa offers an intense wellness experience that can include guided fasts. The small, intimate nature-Sanivan currently has three guest suites-offers an especially tranquil vacation. Owner and director Saniye Gungor and partner Ivan Rivas offer organic cotton bedding, an ozone pool, fresh detoxifying juices, and organic foods. Sanivan is also happy to accommodate requests for raw food or other specialty diets.

'Guests are also welcome to help with food preparation,' Gungor says. 'They leave here with a new knowledge of the simple, healing power of food.'

Massages, hyperbaric oxygen treatments, rain drop therapy, sound wave therapy, holistic facials, colonics, and internal cleansing are all offered. A short stroll leads directly to the nearby Siddha Yoga & Meditation Ashram. The Sanivan property also includes a large labyrinth, built by Gungor as a labor of love."

From New Living Magazine (July 2004)

"About 3 hours from western Suffolk County Long Island, just southwest of the Catskill Mountains, is a wonderful spa that offers an extra special personal touch. Owned and run by former Merrick, Long Island resident, Saniye Gungor, Sanivan Holistic Center is a private sanctuary where you can detox your body and mind, relax and heal for as long as you'd like. Saniye typically greets her guests with a glass of fresh squeezed juice, then feeds them deliciously cooked organic food."...

From Bottom Line/Retirement (December 2007):"Best Spa Getaways for Mothers, Daughters, Granddaughters to Relax and Reconnect" By: Joan Rattner Heilman

"Girls' getaways, especially for mothers and daughters (and granddaughters, nieces, sisters, daughters-in-law and aunts), are one of the hottest vacation trends these days. More and more women are leaving the guys home to watch the games and going somewhere together.

Although some women set forth on organized tours, golfing vacations or visits to Broadway, among the most popular destinations "just for the girls" are elegant spas where they'll be outrageously pampered for a few days to a week. Spas report that their special packages for women only -- that include accommodations, meals and such spa treatments as massages, mud packs, herbal wraps and facials -- are a big hit with customers who want to spend time together without distraction or stress. It's a time to relax, reminisce, reconnect, have a laugh about the "boys" back home -- and come away closer than before.

Here are some of my favorite spas around the country for these womanly getaways...

Sanivan Holistic Retreat, Hurleyville, New York. In the Catskill Mountains about two hours from New York City, this spa has only three rooms and takes no more than six guests at a time. Mothers and daughters (or other female relatives or friends) get a special price that includes accommodations, organic meals, a body treatment or a facial, use of the sauna and pool, and personal healthful lifestyle instruction. Body treatments include shiatsu massage, therapeutic massage, hot stone massage and warm-oil massage. The philosophy is that body, mind and spirit are connected and can be healed by touch, the right foods and positive thinking.
Cost for mother and daughter is $500 per person for two nights."
